The Science Museum: Viruses & Vaccines
Aoife combines science with creativity and storytelling to create a truly captivating Experience that will spark a passion for science in your child.
About the Experience
This Experience will be led by Aoife, a 5th year medical student at Imperial College London. Your child will follow a scavenger hunt, piecing together the story of how the COVID-19 vaccine was developed. They will learn about what vaccinations are and how they can protect us from viruses.
What are vaccinations and why they are important?
At the beginning of the Experience, Aoife will provide your child with a digestible overview of what vaccinations are, making use of the exhibition and keeping things engaging and interactive.
How vaccinations protect us from viruses?
Utilising her experience as a medical student, Aoife will break down how vaccinations work to protect us from viruses into accessible nuggets of information.
How was the COVID-19 vaccine developed?
Having learnt what vaccinations are and how they protect us from viruses, your child will then be guided through an interactive scavenger hunt. This will allow your child to piece together different clues, resulting in a timeline of how the COVID-19 vaccination was developed.
Aoife
Bio: I’m currently in my 5th year of studying Medicine at Imperial College School of Medicine. I have a wide range of interests and a passion for science, especially increasing the accessibility of science! I am lucky enough to attend university in South Kensington with access to some fantastic museums and exhibitions. Science can be a very tricky subject to get children interested in, but I believe linking science, creativity and storytelling is a great way to spark interest! I have lots of experience working with and teaching young children (being the second oldest of 5!) and love encouraging children to work together when problem solving.
