The British Museum: Ancient Greek Mythology
Chloe combines Ancient artefacts with accessible illustrative explanations to create a truly inspiring Experience.
About the Experience
This Experience will be led by Chloe, an Oxford archaeology and anthropology graduate.
Your child will be first introduced to the myth of Persephone through a hand-illustrated worksheet before being guided through an illustrated treasure map of artefacts from the Ancient Greek Period. Each object will form part of a story through which your child will learn about the myth of Persephone.
Your child will then have the opportunity to choose their favourite Ancient Greek myth to explore, or they can be guided through the myth of Icarus.
At the end of the Experience your child will have explored two myths and be able to identify how artefacts from the time inform our understanding of Ancient Greek mythology.
The Myth of Persephone
The Experience will begin with a brief overview of the myth of Persephone focusing on a Bronze Sculpture of a woman holding a pomegranate.
Treasure hunt of objects related to the Myth of Persephone
Your child will be guided through an illustrated treasure map containing clues to find artefacts that will help them to learn about the myth of Persephone.
Identify what these objects teach us about the Myth of Persephone
Once your child has found all the artefacts in the treasure hunt, Chloe will discuss the artefacts with them. She will help your child to explore what we can tell about life in Ancient Greece through these artefacts and how they relate to the myth of Persephone.

Bio: I’ve loved Archaeology since I was little, and I am constantly amazed by its ability to add a human dimension to histories that seem so far off and alien. It’s the perfect blend of history, mythology, and art that teaches you how to look at life and things in a way that is just as exciting and mysterious as it was for the people you are studying. We are so lucky in London to have such a wealth of museums with amazing archaeological collections, and to be able to share the wonders of these museums with younger people is such a privilege.
